What is Lawrence Elder Circle?
The Lawrence Elder Circle is a community of friends who meet every six weeks in Lawrence, Kansas to enjoy a meal, engage in deep conversation, and explore the role of elders in the community and the world.
These friends ask and respond to questions like:
- How can I let go of things that trouble me from my past and be at peace with myself?
- As I age, how can I embrace my decline, diminishment, and even death?
- How do I become the elder that I want to be and that the world has been missing?
The Lawrence Elder Circle gathers to explore and cultivate the arts of what elders do best, like:
- Listening to people and asking good questions.
- Accompanying the dying and learning from them.
- Supporting and mentoring the young.
- Advocating for the natural world.
- Being a non-anxious presence in a troubled world and mediating conflict.
- Cultivating peace.
- Speaking truth to authority.
- Telling the stories and carrying the traditions of the community.
The Lawrence Elder Circle offers 'Coming of Age,' a five-day intensive experience, for those who want their later years to be the culmination of a wonderful life.
